MacLaw Rules

All Rights Reserved to
MacLaw User Group

Many of our members are new to Email Mail Lists and have asked about "the rules." (Remember, most of us are lawyers!) The rules are, essentially, common courtesy. We expect posters to comport with generally accepted "rules of netiquette."

We are professionals seeking, typically, technical advice from other similarly-situated professionals. There are no dumb questions--although from time-to-time, generally on a Friday afternoon after a long work-week, someone will post a dumb joke! Please don't worry about making a mistake.

We have Moderators, one of whom will let you know, probably privately through email, if something you posted is inappropriate or more appropriate for another list. In no event will anyone be asked to unsubscribe without good cause, and only with the prior approval by the Board of Directors after a request of a Moderator. That's the only actual "rule" we have.

We suggest that you read the article on Mail List Etiquette.

Code of Conduct; Privacy Concerns

We will treat each other with respect. From time to time we may disagree, but we will keep the discussion civil. No name calling, personal threats, gross profanity or personal abuse, repeated spamming with commercial matter, or the like.

Persons commenting on specific products and who have a pecuniary or similar interest in that product or in competing products will disclose fully the nature of their interest.

These are private lists, but posters should be aware that any message will arrive and reside on individual member's hard drives until deleted, if ever. Members agree in advance not to retransmit statements made on the lists to nonmembers without the original poster's prior consent.

As a practical matter, members must realize that what they say over the Internet is not hermetically sealed and is subject to interception or unauthorized retransmission. Keep that in mind when you are tempted to say something about someone you don't think is listening or someone who will never see your message; and, think again.
